The Sacred and Devotion
Spiritual beliefs and practices on Anasta are often regional and cultural, with some recurring patterns.
The Dragons
The Twin Dragons—the Dragon of the Heavens and the Dragon of the Deep—are recognized nearly everywhere. While some express a personal relationship to these beings, most peoples regard them in a transcendent way, as the creators outside of creation itself. That is, most do not expect the Dragons to be involved or intervene in day-to-day life, or even in large-scale social issues. The Dragons are literally “larger than life” and most cannot imagine what the Dragons’ true nature is. They are a great Mystery.
The Remembered
Most cultures venerate cultural heroes and celebrated ancestors, and this veneration makes up the bulk of sacred practices individually and collectively. This is true even within the more organized hierarchical structures. These heroes and ancestors are referred to as “The Remembered”: Those whose stories are important to pass on through the generations.
The lists of The Remembered are voluminous and are open for interpretation and creation by the players and GM. Most of The Remembered serve as examplars and/or cautionary tales of what it means to live a meaningful life on Anasta. While most are personified in myth, some “persons” have forms other than a bioform (a weather phenomenon, a landscape and its history, an archetype, etc.).
