  • Create a Cohort Symbol

Cohort Name

A Cohort’s name should be unique and reflect its identity, values, and history. The name can be inspired by various sources such as historical events, cultural references, or the personal experiences of its members. Because the team is central to all narrative and mechanics in the game, it also carries a certain amount of weight in the game world. You may think of it as something like the name of a professional sports team.

When creating a Cohort name, consider the following questions:

  • What is the Cohort’s history and how does it reflect in the name?
  • Is the Cohort aligned with a particular Faction?
  • Are there specific words or phrases that hold significance for the members?
  • Does the name incorporate elements from individual members’ backstories or shared experiences?

If you’d like to stir up some ideas for the actual words, you may use the Cohort Adjective and Cohort Noun tables from the Adversaries and Allies section.

Example Cohort Names

  • The Setting Sun
  • The Bluestripes
  • The Bonespikes
  • The Obsidian Royalty
  • The Velvet Datura
  • The Flaming Felines

Cohort Symbol or Emblem

A Cohort’s symbol or emblem serves as a visual representation of its name, like the mascot of a sports team or insignia of an elite squad. This emblem can and will be displayed on banners, armor, the Cohort vehicle, and personal items of the Cohort members. It is instantly recognizable by other Cohorts and factions, conveying a message to adversaries and allies alike.

When creating a Cohort symbol, consider the following questions:

  • What colors best represent the group’s personality, especially if they favor a particular technology?
  • Are there specific shapes or icons that hold significance for the members?
  • Does the symbol incorporate elements from the individual members’ backgrounds or shared experiences?
  • Is the symbol visually memorable and easy to understand?

Example Symbols

  • The Setting Sun: A stylized sun under an arc representing the Glittering Ring. The Cohort was founded by survivors of a Puritan purge (a fanatic ideology within the Order of the Sun). The members are unified by a pledge to rise above that which sets them apart and find resilience in the face of adversity.
  • The Bluestripes: A single blue stripe running vertically like a brushstroke. The members paint blue stripes vertically down their bodies as a reference to their cunning Kam leader whose blue stripe is entirely natural.
  • The Bonespikes: A white, horned skull surrounded by spikes pointing outward. The members decorate their armor and vehicle with spikes fashioned from the bones of powerful creatures and (it is rumored) their fallen enemies.
  • The Obsidian Royalty: A black crown adorned with jagged edges resembling sharpened obsidian. The members wear blackened armor and jewelry made from the black stone, representing their ruthless rise to power.
  • The Velvet Datura: A stylized dark purple datura flower with soft, flowing petals. The members often wear dark purple clothing and adorn themselves with the symbol to signal their alluring yet deadly nature.
  • The Flaming Felines: A lion’s head silhoutte in profile with a flaming orange mane enclosed in a circle. All members wear this insignia as a glowing Solartech badge on their chest to announce their courage and ferocity.
