Cohort Creation
Though Anasta has moved on from the post-apocalyptic era, it is far from a safe or easy place to live. To make a life for oneself, one must have the support of others. Cohorts are small gangs that form from this basic need. Though motivations vary from Cohort to Cohort, as do the motivations of their individual members, nearly all make their living taking jobs from powerful patrons. These patrons are often faction-related—such as the Guild Barons of Freemarket—and control some manner of supplies that make living life easier. However grand or nuanced the motivations given by these patrons, when distilled they almost always come down to the quest for power and influence in the world.
Cohorts on Anasta are an entity unto themselves and have developed a peculiar way of life. There are a couple dozen Cohorts scattered across the world, each having a personality of its own. This personality is expressed through their rallying cry, a symbol or emblem that is instantly recognizable to other Cohorts, a unique vehicle that supports their lifestyle, and a kind of teamwork and synergy born out of extensive experience working together. Though some may give the appearance of being a ragtag group of misfits, each Cohort is a well-oiled machine (or Ethertech-enhanced organism) when it comes to executing jobs and surviving on the harsh world of Anasta.
Where to Start
Cohort creation is an organic process much like character creation. You may begin with any aspect of the Cohort, then move to or revisit any other aspect until the Cohort is complete. If you are unsure where to start, use the suggested steps below.
