Relationships

No one is an island. Relationships—positive, negative, and ambiguous—help to define a character. Within the tight-knit life of a Cohort, relationships are not only felt deeply, they are relied upon for survival and growth. During critical moments, relationships between characters will help or hinder the Cohort.

Relationship Spotlight

Each session, the GM or group as a whole decides on one relationship to spotlight. For the duration of the session, the Cohort may spend a Destiny point to activate the relationship as a Rank 3 modifier, Beneficial(+) or Hindering(-) depending on context. Like all traits, this will come with a narrative component as the characters play out some sort of drama. If fitting to the story, the group may decide to continue the Relationship Spotlight for the duration of the Scenario.

Relationship Spotlight Stunts

In addition to the Ranked modifier, the characters may choose a Relationship Stunt they may activate during that session.

Growing Together

When the other Cohort member attempts a Growth test, you may give them dice from your Growth pool up to their Growth Pool maximum. The Growth dice spent for the roll is still capped at five (5).

Pop Culture

When the other Cohort member leads a Challenge related to your shared culture, you may Assist with +2d6 regardless of your Expertise. This lasts for the duration of the Challenge.

For the Long Haul

If the other Cohort member fails a Growth test, spend a Growth die to allow them to roll again using the same pool.

Nice Try

When the other Cohort member leads a Cohort turn that ends in less than one success per PC, you may spend a Destiny point and take the lead the next round with an additional +2d6. You must still have Expertise to lead the particular Challenge.

Got Your Back

When the other Cohort member takes Stress while you are facing the same Challenge, you may add that many points to the Doom pool instead.

Relationship Tension

During the course of a session, Doom may creep in to create Tension between the characters in the Relationship Spotlight. For each point of Doom, a Hindering(-) Ranked modifier or (1) unpreventable Stress is applied to the Cohort. As with all modifiers, this creates an opportunity for roleplay as tension mounts.
